Here's a detail that's easy to miss: many competing saunas only carry heater-only certification. That means a lab tested just the heater unit — not the sauna itself, not the wiring, not the overall product.
Every Backyard Discovery sauna carries full sauna ETL certification, which means the entire product — the wiring, the construction, and most importantly the heater while in use with that particular sauna structure — has been independently tested and verified to meet North American safety standards. When your family is spending time around a high-heat electrical product, that matters.
Full certification can also make permitting smoother and give your homeowner's insurance one fewer thing to flag.

A Real Roof — Included, Not Extra
This one surprises a lot of people: with most competing saunas, the roof is sold separately. And when they do offer one, it's often a canvas cover or basic shingles you install yourself.

A Thicker Door That Seals in the Heat
The door is one of the biggest sources of heat loss in any sauna — and the difference between a well-sealed door and a thin one is noticeable every session. Backyard Discovery saunas use an 8mm tempered glass door that locks in heat and eliminates cold spots.
Most competitors use 5–8mm glass. It may sound like a small difference, but when you're sitting in 170°F heat, you feel every degree that escapes.
