What Does the Backyard Discovery Sauna Warranty Cover?

Every component that ships with your Paxton or Lennon sauna is covered for 5 full years. That includes the four categories below — not just the big-ticket items, but the details like your LED light and robe hooks, too.

Structure & Wood

The cedar walls, staves, benches, and framing that make up your sauna’s body are fully covered. If a structural wood component is defective, we replace it. Natural weathering and color change are expected with outdoor cedar and aren’t considered defects.

PrairieFire™ 9kW Electric Heater

Your heater is the heart of the sauna, and it’s covered for the full 5 years. If the PrairieFire™ 9kW unit develops a defect, we ship a replacement at no cost to you — whether you use your sauna for dry sessions, wet sessions, or both.

Electronics & Smart Control Panel

The smart control panel and all electronic components are covered. If a wiring harness, sensor, control panel, or any other Backyard Discovery parts fail due to a defect, that’s on us to make right.

Included Accessories

The bucket, ladle, thermometer, dimmable LED light, robe hooks, and sauna cradles that ship with your sauna are all part of the warranty. These aren’t afterthoughts — they’re part of the product, and we stand behind them the same way we stand behind the structure.

How Replacement Parts and Shipping Work

When we approve a warranty claim, we ship the replacement part directly to you — within 48 business hours of approval, at no charge for the part or the shipping. There is no third-party repair network to wait on.

A note on labor: This warranty covers parts and shipping but does not cover labor. Most parts can be swapped by a homeowner or a local handyperson. We provide the assembly instructions for every component, and our support team is available by phone to walk you through the process.

If a part requires electrical work — like a heater or control panel replacement — we recommend hiring a licensed electrician. Self-installing the electrical work does not void the warranty — but always follow your local codes and use extreme caution. The cost of any electrical service is yours, but the part itself is free.

What’s Not Covered Under This Warranty

We want this to be clear before you buy, not something you discover after. Four things fall outside this warranty.

Normal wood weathering and color change

Cedar is a natural material. When it lives outdoors, it changes color over time — typically shifting toward a silver-grey tone. This is expected behavior, not a defect. If you'd like to seal and/or stain the exterior of your sauna, we recommend using a water-based product — this allows the wood to breathe and keeps the air inside safe to breathe.

Damage from improper electrical installation

If incorrect wiring causes damage to the heater, control panel, or other components, that’s an installation issue — not a manufacturing defect. Self-installing the electrical work does not void the warranty. Only damage specifically caused by improper wiring is excluded.

Cosmetic wear and surface scratches

Scratches and minor surface marks that don’t affect how the sauna functions or its structural integrity are considered normal wear. These are not covered.

Misuse or failure to follow assembly instructions

If the sauna is used outside its intended purpose or assembled contrary to the provided instructions, resulting damage isn’t covered. Follow the manual, use it as designed, and you’re covered.

Important Warranty Limitations

Original purchaser only. This warranty is non-transferable. If you sell your home or give the sauna to someone else, the warranty stays with you — it does not transfer to the new owner.

Geographic coverage. The warranty is valid in the United States and Canada.

Installation method does not affect your warranty. Whether you hire a licensed electrician or handle the electrical yourself, the warranty remains valid. Only damage caused by improper electrical installation is excluded.
