When you compare what's actually inside most infrared saunas — the wood species, the wall thickness, the heater coverage, the EMF data, the warranty fine print — the differences add up fast. We built the Rylan Collection to win that comparison. Every spec on this page is something we're proud to put next to theirs.

Ultra-Low EMF — with a Test Report, Not Just a Claim
EMF (electromagnetic field) is produced by any powered device. In an infrared sauna, you sit within inches of multiple powered panels for 20–30 minutes. That proximity makes this the right category to ask for data — not just marketing language.
Most saunas carry "low-EMF" language on their listings. Very few publish the actual test data behind that claim.
The Rylan Collection has been independently tested by a third-party laboratory and certified at ultra-low magnetic EMF levels. It wasn't luck — the engineering behind that rating isn't a single design decision, it's three layers, built intentionally. The test report is available for download below.
Engineered for EMF: Three Layers, Independently Verified
Unlike most "low-EMF" claims, the Backyard Discovery Rylan Collection's ultra-low rating is backed by purposeful engineering at every stage where EMF is generated — and verified by a third-party lab report.

Heater Panel Cancellation Technology
Integrated EMF cancellation technology is built directly into the heater panels — reducing field emissions at the source before it reaches you.

Steel Conduit Interior Wiring
All interior electrical wiring is routed through steel conduit, which shields electrical field radiation from the wiring runs throughout the sauna structure.

Oversized 14-Gauge Power Cable
An oversized 14-gauge power cable reduces resistive heating in the supply line — and the associated EMF produced by that resistance — at the power source itself.

More Carbon Heaters. Faster Heat-Up — 3rd-Party Verified.
Most infrared saunas place a heater on each wall and call it good. The Rylan Collection positions multiple carbon fiber far-IR panels on the back, side walls, and floor — surrounding you with consistent radiant energy.
Carbon fiber panels run at a lower surface temperature (120–150°F) than ceramic rod heaters (often 180°F+) but distribute heat across a much larger area — producing enveloping warmth without hot spots. Far-infrared wavelengths penetrate 1.5–3 inches into tissue, warming muscle and connective tissue directly rather than heating the surrounding air.
And unlike most manufacturers who don't mention or self-report heat-up times, the Rylan Collection's performance has been independently verified by a third party.
- 20 min — 1–2P to 130°F
- 15 min — 4P to 130°F
- 3rd-Party — Verified, Not Estimated

Premium Cedar — The Wood That Actually Belongs in a Sauna
Most infrared saunas in the market are built from hemlock or basswood. Both are functional materials — but neither have the natural properties that make Cedar the preferred choice for high-heat environments.
The Rylan Collection is built from Premium Cedar — naturally antimicrobial, naturally aromatic, and naturally resistant to the bacteria and moisture that degrade lesser woods over time. Its tight grain structure maintains dimensional stability through repeated heating and cooling cycles that hemlock and basswood simply cannot match.
Cedar has been trusted for centuries. It's not a marketing claim — it's material science with a long track record.
Backyard Discovery
Premium Cedar — antimicrobial, aromatic, dimensionally stable
Typical Competitor
Hemlock or basswood — functional, but significantly less durable and less resistant to heat

Walls Built Thicker — From the Wood Out
Wall thickness isn't a cosmetic detail — it's a key driver of heat retention, structural rigidity, and long-term durability. And it starts with the wood itself.
Most infrared saunas use 5–6mm wood planks — the bare minimum. The Rylan Collection uses 8mm tongue-and-groove cedar boards, which is 30–40% thicker wood than the typical competitor. In a double-wall construction, that brings total wall thickness to 36mm versus the 30–32mm you'll find elsewhere.
The difference is measurable in three ways: heat retention (thicker walls hold thermal energy longer), structural rigidity (panels don't flex under repeated heat stress), and quality that lasts over time.
The glass door follows the same logic. 8mm tempered glass — versus the 6mm standard across most of the category.
- 8mm — Cedar Wall Panels
- 36mm — Total Wall Thickness
- 8mm — Tempered Glass Door

The Full Wellness Suite — Every Model, No Upsells
In most of the infrared sauna category, the features that make the experience feel premium — red light therapy, chromotherapy lighting, Bluetooth audio — are either sold as upgrades or gated to larger, more expensive SKUs. If you want them on a 1-person model, you pay more. Sometimes significantly more.
Every Rylan Collection model ships with the complete suite as standard: red light therapy at 660nm and 850nm, full-spectrum chromotherapy LED, dual Bluetooth speakers, interior and exterior control panels, passive ventilation, and an emergency heat sensor with auto power trip.
On the red light specifically: most competitors that include red light offer a single wavelength at low output. The Rylan Collection's dual-wavelength panel — 660nm (therapeutic red, works at skin and surface tissue) and 850nm (near-infrared, reaches slightly deeper) — is a meaningful distinction, not a marketing label. And it's included on the 1-person model the same as the 4-person corner.
The feature set doesn't change based on which size you choose. You're not buying a base model and upgrading into the experience — the full experience is what you're buying.

5 Year Warranty
Covers craftsmanship and components including:
- Cabin / Materials
- Electrical Components
- Electric 9kW Heater
- Tempered Glass
5-Year Warranty. One Policy. No Fine Print.
Here's the detail most infrared sauna warranties bury in the fine print: coverage is typically split by component — 5–10 years on structure, 2–3 years on heaters, 1 year or less on electrical. That architecture matters because heaters and electronics are the parts most likely to need service — and they're the ones with the shortest coverage windows.
When something goes wrong in year three, you're often outside warranty on the component that actually failed.
The Rylan Collection carries a 5-year comprehensive warranty covering the entire unit — structure, heaters, electrical components, and glass — under one policy. No exclusions. No tiers to navigate. If something fails in the first five years, it's covered. Full stop.
Backed by US-based customer support available 7 days a week. Backyard Discovery has been building outdoor products for families for over 50 years. Standing behind what we build is kind of our thing.

Know your electrical before you buy
The Rylan Collection is designed to make installation as straightforward as possible — but electrical requirements differ by model size. All models are fully pre-wired; the power cord exits from the roof of the unit (approx. 5 ft) and reaches a wall outlet at standard height. Here's exactly what each model needs.
Rylan 1-Person & 2-Person — 120V Plug-and-Play. These models run on standard household power: a dedicated 120V / 15A circuit with a standard NEMA 5-15R outlet. No new panel work, no special wiring, no electrician required. Dedicated means the circuit serves only this outlet — not shared with other appliances. Plug in, power up, done. Never use an extension cord or power strip.
Rylan 4-Person & 4-Person Corner — 240V Dedicated Circuit. These models require a dedicated 240V / 20A circuit and a NEMA 6-20R outlet installed by a licensed electrician before delivery. Plan your outlet placement so the 5-ft cord reaches comfortably — no extension cords permitted. This is a one-time setup; once it's done, operation is as simple as the smaller models.
- 120V — 1–2P · 15A Dedicated · No Electrician
- 240V — 4P · 20A Dedicated · NEMA 6-20R

Couldn't be happier! Solid & easy build
I couldn't be happier with my Rylan sauna! It has become my go-to for a roomy and high-end 1-person wellness session (you could even squeeze 2 ppl if you wanted). The entire customer experience was seamless, starting with fast delivery and solid, damage-free packaging that made for a perfect arrival. The setup was surprisingly straightforward with clear instructions, making at-home assembly a breeze. It performs exactly as expected, heating up pretty quickly to a consistent, even temperature. Aesthetically, the sleek wood finish is a fantastic fit for my space without feeling bulky. For anyone looking for a reliable, easy-to-assemble home sauna that delivers on its promises, I highly recommend the Rylan 👍
Nice sauna, good quality and easy assembly
Unit came in 3 boxes, well packed and nothing was damaged. Took about 2hrs with 2 person (2nd set of hands really helped). High quality and very solid (about 25% heavy than other brands). Looks really nice and easy to assemble (parts and instructions were very clear). Only had it for a few days (used it twice). Only complaint was it took along time to get hot (40mins to get to 130F, and never got higher than 138F). I hope this improves since I picked this one since I wanted something around 150F as advertised.
Best Investment
I did a ton of research before pulling the trigger on the Rylan 2-person sauna, and I'm so glad I went with Backyard Discovery. This thing is legit.
First, setup was way easier than I expected. The panels came pre-built and pre-wired so my husband and I had it assembled in an afternoon without calling anyone for help. It plugs right into a standard outlet, no electrician needed.
The heat-up time blew me away. It was ready to go noticeably faster than my friend's older infrared sauna, and once it's up to temp, it stays there. You can tell the thicker cedar walls and that solid glass door are doing their job. The heat is so even — no cold spots at all ...
So pleased with this sauna!
We could not be more impressed with the Rylan 1-Person Indoor Infrared Sauna. From the moment it arrived, the entire experience has been seamless and exceeded our expectations.
Shipping was fast and everything was extremely well-packaged. Assembly was straightforward and thoughtfully designed. The pieces fit together easily, and the instructions were clear, which made setup much quicker than we anticipated.
What really sets this sauna apart is the quality and attention to detail. The build feels solid and well-crafted, and the design fits beautifully into our home without taking up unnecessary space ...
Amazing product!
We couldn’t be happier with our Rylan Sauna. Assembly was super simple, and once it was up, the quality was amazing! The solid wood panels give it a high-end feel, and it heats up faster than any sauna we’ve owned. Also.. love the cedar smell.. This is a very sturdy, well built product. Worth every penny!
Great sauna!
We did a lot of research before purchasing the Rylan Sauna, and it was immediately clear that this one stood out from the competitors. The thicker wood makes a huge difference; you can feel the quality the moment you step inside. It heats up faster than other saunas we’ve tried, and the overall construction is far superior to similar models at this price point. It feels solid, well-insulated, and truly built to last.
