Trade Compliance Manager

To support global growth, we are seeking a detail-oriented, Trade Compliance Manager to operationally manage the daily export/import customs transactions. Also, support of shipments originating in Asia to countries outside of North America.

As a Trade Compliance Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Partner with Customs Brokers appointed internally or externally by our clients
  • Determine Schedule B and HTS tariff classifications
  • Determine eligibility under Free Trade Agreements and create the relevant certificates as necessary. For example: USMCA certificates.
  • Obtain country of origin documents from the Chamber of Commerce
  • Create commercial invoices/packing slips/freight forwarder Shipper Letter of Instructions for our USA Distribution Centers
  • File EEI’s (electronic export information) through AES for shipments consisting of a single commodity over $2,500.00 in value
  • Track shipments en transit to ensure timely customs release and deliveries
  • Check “ship to” receivers against the Denied Party Screening List for each export transaction
  • Ensure the price paid is the price entered on customs entry documents
  • Declare “assists” as applicable
  • Track containers to minimize demurrage/detention fees
  • Develop and execute effective relationships with all custom brokers and work with them to resolve invoice issues and discrepancies
  • Communicate daily with brokers providing appropriate documentation for shipments.
  • Ensure shipments have minimal delays clearing customs and meet all regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate records and complete record keeping of all import transactions
  • Maintain and update Import Reconciliation and ACE Reports
  • Assist the Senior Director, Compliance & Global Logistics, with collection of documentation for Duty Drawback and Post Summary Corrections as needed
  • Review freight and customs invoices for accuracy
  • Prepare reporting as needed
  • Record retention of 5 years minimum for all international files

Experience Required

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in the management of trade compliance
  • Confidence with Schedule B and HTS tariff classification
  • Determining eligibility under Free Trade Agreements
  • Tracking and tracing of shipments with steamship lines and parcel carriers
  • Excellent communication skills working with customs broker(s)
  • Experience with duty drawback preferred
  • Filing of assists and adjusted entries
  • Strong project management skills
  • Flexible, organized, team player
  • Very strong attention to detail
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
